Tong Ren for the Nervous System: Distance Healing Meets the Neurowellness Movement

The wellness world just discovered “neurowellness” — regulating the nervous system as the next frontier of healing. I’ve been practicing exactly that, through a modality most people have never heard of, for 25 years.

The Real Problem

Modern wellness has finally caught up to something ancient healing traditions never doubted: the nervous system is central to almost everything. One of 2026’s biggest wellness trends is what researchers are calling neurowellness — the recognition that chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation sit underneath conditions we usually treat as separate problems, from fatigue to organ dysfunction to slow healing and chronic pain.
The wellness industry’s answer has largely been technological: neurotech wearables, biofeedback devices, apps that measure heart rate variability and tell you how regulated you are. These tools aren’t wrong, but they measure a problem without addressing its root, and they often overlook something simpler and older. The nervous system isn’t just chemical. It’s electrical. And electrical systems can develop blockages, points where signal simply stops getting through. This is where Tong Ren comes in, a practice I’ve spent 25 years learning, refining, and now teaching around the world.

The Real Problem: Bioelectricity Organ or Gland Blockage (Nervous System Connection)

Understanding the Root Cause

Every organ and gland in your body has a direct signaling relationship with your brain, transmitted along the spine. Your brain isn’t just in charge in some abstract sense; it’s in constant electrical conversation with every part of your body, and the spine is the primary transmission line. When that signal gets interrupted, a bioelectrical blockage, the target organ or gland doesn’t just lose vague support. It loses direct communication with the command center.
Modern neuroscience backs up how staggering this network really is. The human brain contains roughly 86 billion neurons, and those neurons form an estimated 100 trillion connections to each other, more connections than there are stars in several galaxies combined. This is not a static wiring system. It’s a living, dynamic electrical network, constantly sending and adjusting signal in real time. Tong Ren works with this network directly. The nervous system doesn’t just react to injury or illness at the site; it reflects it, in mappable ways, along the spine.

Get Your Baseline

Before starting any healing practice, Tong Ren included, get a baseline. Write down how you feel today, and if you can, get a set of baseline bloodwork before starting so you can track your progress. This matters more than most people realize, because most practitioners only look at how someone feels in the moment, with no record of where they started. That’s especially true with Tong Ren, where results build gradually rather than dramatically. Without a baseline, real progress can go unnoticed, and that’s exactly when people give up on something that’s actually working.

The Solution — Opening the Blockage, Restoring the Signal

Tong Ren works through a three-step sequence, and understanding this sequence is the key to understanding why it works at all. The first step is opening the blockage. Using tapping techniques directed at specific points, often at the corresponding spinal segment, Tong Ren works to clear the bioelectrical obstruction sitting between the brain and the target organ or gland.
The second step is reestablishing brain-target signaling. Once the blockage is cleared, the brain’s signal can travel again, down the spine, to the organ or gland that had been cut off. This is the piece most healing approaches skip entirely. You’re not adding something foreign to the body. You’re restoring a connection that was already meant to exist.
The third step, and the real goal, is unleashing the body’s dormant resources. The body already carries vast healing capacity; it doesn’t need that capacity delivered from outside. It needs the signal that activates and directs it. Once brain-to-target communication is restored, the body’s own capacity for repair and regulation comes back online.
The spine maps to the body with real specificity. A few examples: T3 corresponds to the lungs, T5 to the heart, and T9 to the liver. When someone has ongoing dysfunction in one of these organs, working at the corresponding spinal level isn’t guesswork. It’s targeting the exact point where signal may be interrupted. This is also why distance healing works the way it does. We aren’t working on tissue directly; we’re working on signal, and signal, unlike touch, isn’t confined by physical proximity.

My Own Path to Tong Ren

I didn’t start out as a healer. I trained as an engineer, and looking back, I think that background is part of why the electrical, signal-based model of Tong Ren made so much sense to me. I wasn’t looking at the body as mystical; I was looking at it as a system, with wiring, transmission points, and blockages. What pulled me away from engineering was a growing desire to be of direct service to people, not designing systems but helping restore them. That led me to Tui Na and to Tong Ren specifically, studying under Tom Tam, the founder of Tong Ren, for the past 25 years. That commitment eventually led me to write the field’s main anatomy reference, a 400-page point location book for Tong Ren and the Tam Healing System. I’ve maintained a personal practice this entire time, and today I teach this work to practitioners around the world. What’s kept me committed isn’t one dramatic case. It’s the consistency of what happens when a blockage clears and signal is restored, again and again, in people who had stopped expecting their bodies to respond to anything.

Benefits

Tong Ren is non-invasive and drug-free, working entirely through bioelectrical signaling with no substances introduced into the body. It addresses root communication rather than just symptoms, working at the level of the signal itself instead of managing the target site alone. It works alongside conventional care rather than replacing it, and because it works through signal rather than proximity, distance is never a barrier to receiving it.

What You Can Start Today

Get your baseline first. Learn the spinal mapping relevant to what you’re working on, whether that’s T3 for the lungs, T5 for the heart, or T9 for the liver. If you’re new to Tong Ren, seek a properly trained practitioner rather than attempting self-treatment on complex conditions. Always consult your doctor before beginning any new health practice. And consider this affirmation: my body’s signal was never broken, only interrupted. I open the pathway, and the body does what it already knows how to do.

Sodium [Natural] is Your Friend – No Sodium No charge!

Sodium [Natural] is Your Friend – No Sodium No charge!

Doctors say, watch out for sodium! But we need sodium, as long as it is the right kind. We have no bioelectricity in the body without sodium.
Let’s take a look at how the body charges its bioelectricity and how the quality of our sodium makes a difference.

Body Electricity

Ever feel out of energy? Lethargic? It is probably because your body is not charging properly and the energy charging minerals of our electrically-charged materials, electrolytes, are absent from our diet.
Our bodies are electric. It is like a DC (Direct Current) motor, connecting to energy supplies from the sun and the earth then creating flow in the body with internal electricity, electrolytes. These are charged minerals. The main ones are
  • Sodium
  • Magnesium
  • Potassium
  • Calcium

Electrolytes

Since they are charged, just like electrons flow from the earth to our bodies when we walk barefoot, the cells have a flow of bioelectricity across the cell membrane. Depending on the charge of the electrolytes, the sodium and potassium in particular, work through a cellular opening, the sodium-potassium pump. The differences in charges maintain the electrical homeostasis of the cell, and either charge flows into the cell when there is a deficiency, or charge flows out when there is an excess.
The bottom line is, we need electricity in our cells. Therefore, we need electrolyte foods like sea vegetables or vegetables like leafy greens or root vegetables.
One of the main reasons this is important is hydration. If we don’t have enough of these minerals, we can’t easily absorb water. We can drink a ton of water, but it is not absorbed since it needs to work with electrolytes, also to nourish the cells.

There is an excellent product, Beam Minerals and they are specialized in this area. I always recommend food for natural electrolytes, but their products are a great support to catch up.
Lastly, sodium is your friend, as long as it is natural. We need it, but processed sodium or iodized salt is like a poison in the body. And, if you are a coffee drinker, add a dash of salt. This will counteract the bitterness, the acidity, and make sweeteners less needed.

Tips for Boosting Electrolytes

  • Sea Vegetables
  • Sea Salt
  • Leafy greens
  • Root Vegetables
  • Beam Minerals
  • Avoid iodized salt and salt in processed foods

Quantum Biology Lifestyle Medicine Series – Sunlight

Morning Routine – Watch the Sunrise!

Every morning, I watch the sunrise. It is awe-inspiring to see the sun literally move above the horizon right before my very eyes.
Also, I did not know that the sun rises in a different location every day. I thought it was always the same but that is not true. It is east for sure, but it moves across the sky from the left then a little to the right each day, until the solstice, when it does an about face.
My window faces east but, the sun was so far to the right, I had to move way over to the left to catch it rising.
I like to multitask so, I watch the sun while bouncing on my rebounder (personal trampoline) or do yoga and experience a true “Sun Salutation”.

Sun Gazing

Did you know you can look into the sun at sunrise? For about 15 minutes or so, at sunrise, when the angle of the sun is around zero degrees to about 10 degrees, the harmful frequencies are not present. It is all about the angle of the sun.
DO NOT look at the sun at noon and after the sun is above about 10 degrees, 15-30 minutes after earth sunrise. Be even more conservative if you see mountains or buildings to your east since that would mean the sunrise to your view, is appearing later but has actually already risen.
Check on the internet or use a great app mycircadian on your phone and it will also give you alerts.
Also, do not worry if it is overcast weather. The amazing power of the sun, with its penetrating waves and particles, is still beneficial.

The Amazing Light Journey from the Sun to our Brain

Step #1 – The sun uses frequencies and communicates with the melanopsin in our eyes, highly light-sensitive nerves.
Step #2 – Then the nerves send signals and messages via the retinohypothalamic (Eye-Hypothalamus) tract to the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) in the hypothalamus of the brain. The SCN is like a light processing computer center.
Step #3 – The SCN, our sun energy receiver device, communicates with the pineal gland and other locations to tell the body to get to work. Everything in the body is managed through this process since every single cell has circadian rhythms and it is told what to do from the SCN.
Our brain literally communicates with the sun from 92 million miles away! Remember, the sun was here first, about 4.5 billion years ago and everything on earth, including humans and plants, are co-creators and recipients of sun energy that was here much longer than when we arrived on the scene. Therefore, we have adapted to this external environment and tapped into it schedules and frequencies.

From the Sun to our Brain

Why look at the Sun?

First, it is fun to watch this massive fireball slowly rise over the horizon. It is quite humbling.
I also want to start my day off right and initialize my body with proper programming and rebooting from the sun.
I want to set my body rhythms, my circadian rhythms and be in sync with the entire universe too, with the frequency encoding especially since we are interconnected with the energies of healing light, the planets, the sun, and universal elements like hydrogen, oxygen, and even an important but not well-discussed element deuterium that we will discuss later.
My location on earth, the time of day, the season, the angle of the sun, is all communicated to my brain with collaboration from the sun to my eyeballs! So, if it is winter, the body is given different instructions than it would if it were summer.
The instructions come in different light frequencies. These light frequencies give different messages and are also healing frequencies too.

Top 5 Benefits of Sun Gazing

  1. Initializes the entire endocrine system
  2. Accelerates body repair
  3. Reduces inflammation
  4. Improves sleep by properly turning off melatonin and turning on cortisol
  5. Improves Cellular health and circulation

How Infrared Light Improves Circulation

  1. Deep Penetration of Infrared Light
    • Infrared light from the sunrise can penetrate up to 8-10 millimeters beneath the skin, reaching capillaries, blood vessels, and even underlying tissues.
    • This deep interaction stimulates cells and promotes the release of nitric oxide, a molecule essential for blood vessel dilation.
  2. Nitric Oxide Release
    • Nitric oxide helps relax and expand blood vessels, improving blood flow and reducing vascular resistance.
    • Enhanced blood circulation ensures better oxygen and nutrient delivery to tissues and organs, supporting overall health.
  3. Reduced Inflammation
    • The gentle infrared light can reduce inflammation in blood vessels, improving their flexibility and reducing risks of conditions like hypertension.
    • Improved microcirculation enhances healing in areas where blood flow might otherwise be sluggish.
  4. Cellular Energy Boost
    • Infrared light stimulates mitochondria in cells to produce more ATP (energy).
    • This increase in energy improves cellular functions, aiding repair and regeneration in blood vessel linings and surrounding tissues.
  5. Improves Capillary Health
    • Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels responsible for nutrient and oxygen exchange.
    • Sunrise infrared light supports capillary efficiency, allowing them to function better in delivering nutrients and removing waste.

Conclusion – Circadian Rhythms for Daily Living

Our bodies have a clear day shift and night shift. Watching the sunrise sunlight emphatically ends the night shift activities managed by melatonin, and starts the daylight shift, managed by cortisol. Enjoy watching the heavenly bodies of the universe as they arrive to give us light and life every morning.
